Maud Salvi Interview
Maud Salvi is an arts manager and festival producer based in Calgary, Alberta. She has worked as the Executive Director of Calgary’s Sled Island Music & Arts Festival since 2013. Originally from France, Salvi began her career in the music industry volunteering at various music venues before studying production management at university. Moving to Montréal in 2008, she spent the next four years as the Artistic Producer at POP Montréal International Music Festival. In her role as Executive Director of Sled Island, Salvi is responsible for managing the festival’s budget and staffing, securing sponsors and local partners, and ensuring the festival stays true to its artistic mandate. The 5-day festival takes place throughout Calgary’s downtown core, hosting upwards of 250 musical acts in 30 venues across the city. Voted one of the top ten music festivals in Canada by CBC Radio 3 listeners, the success of Sled Island has inspired the creation of similar music festivals in Western Canada, including Up + Downtown in Edmonton and Rifflandia in Victoria, B.C.
Career Highlights
For POP Montréal’s 10th anniversary in 2011, Salvi played an essential role in raising funds and establishing partnerships to support a free outdoor show featuring the award-winning Canadian group, Arcade Fire. The event attracted over 100,000 people and earned Salvi a glowing reputation in the community.
Salvi’s first year as Executive Director of Sled was in 2013, the year of devastating floods in Calgary and Southern Alberta. She was not only able to manage a “worst-case scenario” situation with the cancellation of the entire event that year, but succeeded in getting the festival back on track the next year without change.
